Description
A hardy, maintenance-free beautiful flowering shrub anyone can grow, the Double Bridal Wreath Spirea ‘Plena’ is an old-fashioned favorite that heralds the arrival of spring when its arching branches become literally smothered in clusters of pearl-like buds that open to fully double white flowers. Budded branches are excellent for cutting and display in indoor flower arrangements. This one has stood the test of time to earn a place in so many North American gardens not only because of its stunning spring flower display but also its superior drought, heat and cold tolerance and high resistance to insect, disease, deer and salt. Combines nicely and blooms right along with other early spring flowering beauties such as Forsythia, Quince,Magnolia Tulip Trees, Native Azaleas, and spring-flowering Camellias.
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing 5 to 8 feet tall and equally as wide, the Double Bridal Wreath Spirea is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a natural hedge in landscape and flowering shrub borders. Also makes a nice accent in home foundation plantings to soften corners or fill spaces between widely-spaced windows. A fine addition to cottage gardens, white theme gardens, cut flower gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Suggested Spacing: 4 to 5 feet apart for solid hedges; 10 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Double Bridal Wreath Spirea is very easy to grow in a wide range of soils preferring a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. For the best foliage color we suggest full to mostly sun however plants will tolerate some light shade. Prune for shaping or to reduce the size of the plant after flowering in spring.

They were lacking on the 6-packs, but had plenty of 1-gallon plants. So I went ahead and ordered 3 of the 1-gal, repotted and put them in the nursery to see how they would grow. Its still cool and transitioning to summer, so the growth is slow. But they are in good shape as far as foliage, nice limbs, and overall good to go. I’d buy these again. And would buy a 6-pack or two if they were available for my need. But I have plenty of other plants to deal with, So, this may or may not happen right away. Their loss.————————————-So sorry we did not have the six packs. You can always put your name on the waiting list and we will notify you when they are available. We are glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy them for years to come! Thanks for the great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
I ordered this plant from two other growers before finally trying Wilson Brothers. The other companies sent me the wrong plant, but I didn’t know that until I planted it and waited for it to flower the next spring. Finally, Wilson Brothers send me a beautiful bridal wreath that is doing wonderfully.————————————————————We are so glad you are pleased and we hope you enjoy it for years to come! Thanks for the kind words and great review! 🙂 Beth Steele | WBG
