Description
A distinctive tiny leaved selection, Leprechaun Thyme is a slow spreader perfect for growing between flagstones, as a groundcover in small garden spaces, or soil cover in containers. The bright green leaves on short stems form a dense mat. Unusual among creeping thymes, the leaves have a lemony scent. Cluster of tiny pink flowers sit atop the foliage during summer. Everything about this variety is tiny, hence the name!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a low mound to maybe 1/2 inch tall and spreading slowly to 12 inches or so over time, Leprechaun Creeping Thyme tolerates foot traffic well so is perfect for use to fill the gaps between stepping stones and pavers or as a groundcover or underplanting for shrubs, roses, perennials and small trees, such as Japanese maples. Very nice around and in the crevices between boulders and stones in the rock garden or around garden ponds. Also serves nicely as a soil cover in container gardens. A fine addition to rock gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).
Tip:Â Â When planting between closely spaced stepping stones or pavers the root ball of some creeping thymes can be divided so as to fit in the smaller gaps. Just make sure plants have rooted across the soil surface in the pot. If there is only a single stem with branches do not try to divide the plant!
Suggested Spacing:Â 8-12 inches apart for mass planting;Â 6 to 12 inches apart to fill gaps between stepping stones or pavers

Growing Preferences
When planted right and in the right spot, Leprechaun Creeping Thyme is easy to grow. It grows best in light, lightly moist to dry, well-drained soil and full sun. A little shade is okay. Will tolerate rainy periods but constantly soggy or wet soil is a killer. So make sure to plant in a well-drained site.Â
