Description
A dramatic and hardy perennial in the garden that towers up to 5 feet in height, ‘Lady Luck’ Kniphofia will smile on your garden during summer when abundant tiki torch-like bicolor spikes of chartreuse and bright white flowers rise on sturdy stalks above the clump of grassy foliage. The flower color is a deviation from the norm with red hot pokers but are still a favorite of butterflies and hummingbirds. Take a chance on Lady Luck and we think you and your butterflies and hummingbirds will be happy you did!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing in a grassy clump with flower spikes reaching 4 to 5 feet tall and foliage 3 to 4 feet wide, the Lady Luck Kniphofia is ideal for use as an accent or grouped in perennial or landscape borders, especially where there is plenty of sunshine. Great around ponds and in rock gardens. A fine addition to perennial gardens, tropical look gardens, hummingbird and butterfly gardens, Xeriscape gardens (low water needs), and white theme gardens.
Suggested Spacing:Â 6 feet or more apart for space between plants
Growing Preferences
Kniphofia are very easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained to dry soil of average or even poor fertility. Though they will tolerate some light shade, they bloom their best in full to mostly sun. Maintenance is minimal to none. Plants can be cleaned up at the end of winter before ne growth emerges in spring.
Note: In USDA Zone 5 and 6 this plant will appreciate a layer of mulch for protection from the cold. Â
